This job opportunity invites May 2026 nursing graduates to apply for Nurse Residency Programs across multiple affiliated hospitals and health facilities, including Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, NY; Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, VT; Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY; Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown, NY; Home Health & Hospice services across Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties, VT; Porter Medical Center in Middlebury, VT; and the flagship University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT. These residency programs are thoughtfully structured to help new nurses transition into their professional careers by equipping them with essential clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and behavior competencies needed for quality patient care. The programs feature immersive experiences such as classroom instruction, hands-on skills development sessions, and guided clinical practice under the supervision of experienced preceptors. Nurses will have the opportunity to work in specialized units like emergency departments, intensive care units, medical-surgical units, operating rooms, birthing centers, pediatrics, oncology, psychiatric care, and more, depending on the cohort and location.
Designed to offer supportive mentorship and continuous education, the Nurse Residency Programs at UVMMC and partnering institutions foster a culture of lifelong learning and professional growth. These initiatives not only ensure safe, effective patient care but also nurture new nurses' confidence and clinical decision-making capabilities from the outset of their careers. Nurses engaged in the program benefit from direct supervision by clinical preceptors who facilitate patient care experiences, provide constructive feedback, and help develop proficiency at the bedside. The residency cohorts are expected to start between June and October 2026, with hiring needs determining exact timing and unit placement. Sign-on bonuses may be offered depending on the unit and partner facility.
