The Florida State Guard (FSG) serves as a critical component of Florida's statewide crisis and emergency response system. As a division of the Florida Department of Military Affairs, the FSG's mission focuses on protecting and preserving the life and property of Floridians from all threats to public safety. It does so by rapidly deploying ground, maritime, and air resources in close partnership with state and local agencies. The Florida State Guard is currently seeking a qualified Multi-Engine Reciprocal Aircraft Pilot to join its ranks in Lakeland, Florida. This position offers a career service employment type with a competitive salary of up to $105,000, reflecting the level of expertise and responsibility required. The role is integral to the operational success of the FSG aviation missions and mutual aid incidents throughout the state.
The Multi-Engine Reciprocal Aircraft Pilot is tasked with piloting state-owned and leased aircraft, encompassing both fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms. This person must conduct thorough preflight inspections before each flight to ensure the highest levels of safety and operational readiness. They are required to operate all aircraft in strict compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, Florida State Guard policies, and the specific guidelines outlined in the FSG Flight Manual and aircraft manufacturer’s handbook. The pilot will also provide aerial support for various critical operations such as search and rescue missions, transporting arrestees, surveillance, and offering an aerial platform for state security and dignitary protection.
With a requirement of over 3000 hours of flight experience in both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, the ideal candidate is either an FAA-certified flight instructor or must have the ability to obtain this certification within 3-6 months of hire. This ensures a high standard in flight operations and safety protocols. In addition to piloting duties, the role involves maintaining aircraft cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency, along with recognizing and reporting any maintenance needs.
