The Kitchen Lead role at Sweetgreen is a pivotal position that serves as the backbone of the restaurant's hot food preparation operations. This management role combines hands-on culinary skills with leadership and operational management, overseeing the full cycle of kitchen activities throughout a shift. As Kitchen Lead, the individual ensures that all hot food items are prepared to exacting quality and safety standards while maintaining an organized and efficient kitchen environment. The position supports and collaborates closely with the team, including front-of-house leadership, cold prep, and other kitchen stations, to provide a seamless guest experience.
The Kitchen Lead is also responsible for managing the kitchen’s cleanliness, inventory, and equipment maintenance, most notably the oven’s operational capacity and upkeep. This role involves conducting quality checks such as taste tests, monitoring food safety protocols including FIFO rotation, and handling waste recording to minimize food loss. The Kitchen Lead plays a crucial role in training new team members and assisting with menu rollouts to maintain consistency across all service periods.
