The position focuses on maintaining the sanitation and cleanliness of all food service areas and equipment, including kitchens, storerooms, and locker areas. The employee in this role will be responsible for cleaning, washing, and storing all eating and drinking utensils, pots, pans, and related kitchen items. Keeping kitchen surfaces—including floors, walls, and ceilings—clean is essential to ensure a safe and hygienic environment. Additional duties include maintaining clean dishwasher and dishwashing areas, cleaning out dish machines after every meal, and restocking service areas with glassware, silverware, and china. Careful attention to waste management is also critical, as the role involves emptying and scrubbing garbage containers, keeping the garbage compactor area clean, and cleaning hood areas and screens above cooking zones under the supervision of lead stewards.
This job requires physical stamina and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds. The employee must be able to read English and present a friendly, well-groomed appearance to contribute positively to the guest experience. Normal working hours primarily occur during the second shift, including weekends and holidays, but may vary according to operational needs. This is a union position where scheduling is based on seniority, and flexibility to meet scheduled requirements, including evening and weekend shifts, is necessary.
