The Freight Forwarding Specialist is responsible for overseeing day-to-day shipment activities, providing timely updates to customers, and coordinating with internal teams as well as external agents to ensure shipments are processed efficiently and in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP). This role involves selecting optimal shipment routes based on the nature of goods, transit times, and security requirements. The specialist arranges for space reservations on various transportation modes including ships, aircraft, trains, or trucks and manages the delivery or storage of goods at destinations. Handling sensitive and special cargo such as livestock, food, or medical supplies requires a high level of attention to detail and adherence to safety standards. Additionally, the specialist manages import shipments from origin pickup to delivery, tracks shipment status, and handles all shipment and transportation activities for key customer accounts. The Freight Forwarding Specialist plays an advisory role by informing clients about shipping options, regulations, timeline factors, and transfer logistics to enhance their supply chain strategies and reduce costs. They also consolidate loads to optimize shipping efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Meticulous documentation practices including preparation of bills of lading, packing lists, dock receipts, and certificates of origin are essential to this role. A successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in logistics software, exhibit strong critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills, and possess the ability to interact effectively with both internal teams and clients.
