This job opportunity is for an interim Assistant Food Service Manager position within the Food Services Department. The role entails planning, organizing, and supervising the daily operations of the Bakersfield College Cafeteria and Concession stands. Reporting directly to the Food Service Manager, the Assistant Food Service Manager is a key leadership role responsible for managing all facets of food service operations, including food preparation, staff supervision, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. The interim position is designed to fill this role temporarily, with the term potentially lasting up to two years or until a full-time appointment is made.
The Assistant Food Service Manager must coordinate daily activities effectively, oversee food storage and utilization, and maintain high standards for food quality and sanitation. The position also involves managing the concession operations, supporting catering services for campus events, and driving to off-site locations as needed. Financial accountability is a significant part of the role, including participation in budget preparation, food cost control, and cash management. This managerial role requires close collaboration with food service personnel and student workers, fostering a positive and productive work environment through recruitment, training, supervision, and performance evaluation.
Candidates for this interim position should possess a background in food service management, with at least five years of experience in leadership roles within food service operations. The college requires an associate degree or equivalent experience and a valid California driver’s license. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate knowledge of sanitation laws, financial management, catering techniques, and personnel administration. A California Sanitation Certificate or the ability to obtain one is also necessary.
