The International Freight Specialist role at Backhaul Direct is a pivotal position within the International Logistics Department. This full-time role requires a motivated and self-starting individual who can take full ownership of the international freight lifecycle — from quoting and booking to delivery and billing. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing import shipments, drayage coordination, and ensuring compliance with all shipping processes, including problem resolution and customer follow-up. Working primarily in a fast-paced third-party logistics (3PL) environment, the International Freight Specialist must demonstrate the ability to work independently and efficiently, thriving under pressure and handling complex logistics scenarios with precision. The role demands an in-depth understanding of ocean freight, drayage, and occasionally air freight operations, along with expertise in documentation preparation and shipment tracking. Utilizing tools like CargoWise, the specialist will coordinate with carriers, internal teams, and customers to guarantee timely, accurate freight movement and invoicing. - Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or supply chain or related field preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in import and export logistics
- Experience with ocean freight and drayage operations required
- Prior work experience in 3PL, 4PL, freight forwarding, NVOCC, or international carriers
- Proficiency in CargoWise mandatory
- Ability to use Excel and TMS or other shipping software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and manage time effectively
- Technologically proficient and quick learner for software applications
- Basic knowledge of international trade regulations and compliance
- Effective teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
