The hiring company is a specialized logistics and freight handling establishment committed to the efficient management of goods and transportation within commercial and airport settings. Known for its adherence to safety protocols and operational excellence, this company plays a pivotal role in ensuring that freight and cargo are received, stored, and distributed effectively across various designated areas. Their environments are equipped with the necessary tools and equipment to facilitate smooth operations including forklifts and inventory management systems. As a logistics-focused company, they emphasize compliance with industry standards and regulations to maintain the quality and security of all freight handled.
This job opportunity is for a Freight Handler who will be integral to the day-to-day operations of receiving and distributing freight in accordance with established guidelines. As a Freight Handler, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting shipping documents such as air waybills, bills of lading, and freight manifests to determine the nature and destination of the items needing movement. The role involves physically moving freight using equipment such as forklifts or transporters, ensuring materials are sorted systematically by consignee or destination. Handling dangerous goods safely and storing them in appropriate locations is a critical part of the role, reflecting the company's dedication to safety.
Additionally, you will be tasked with fulfilling requisitions for materials and tools, performing cargo build-ups and breakdowns including working with pallets, skids, and Unit Load Devices (ULDs), and maintaining clean and hazard-free work areas. This role requires regular record-keeping to document inventory counts during receipt and distribution processes, which is essential for maintaining company standards and compliance with air waybills.
The Freight Handler position demands a strong commitment to safety policies, including the mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), adherence to safe lifting techniques, compliant operation of vehicles and equipment within the airport's operational area, and observance of speed limits to prevent accidents. Flexibility is also necessary, as the position often requires working variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, reflecting the 24/7 nature of freight and logistics services.
The company supports its employees with thorough training and ensures all freight handlers are licensed and certified as per the required regulations, such as obtaining the Department of Airports driver’s license for access to the Airport Operational Area and passing security clearances like FBI background checks. Candidates will also undergo medical and drug screenings to maintain a healthy and safe work environment.
This role is ideal for individuals who are physically capable, detail-oriented, and committed to operational safety and efficiency in a dynamic logistics environment. It speaks to candidates who enjoy hands-on work with freight and cargo and are eager to be part of a critical supply chain process that impacts a broad array of industries.
