This role focuses on the critical function of maintaining cleanliness and environmental standards at the Hampton VA Medical Center. As a Housekeeping Aid (HKA) - Environmental Services (EVS) Technician, you will serve an essential support role by ensuring that all areas within the facility, including patient wards, restrooms, offices, and communal spaces, are clean, safe, and hygienic. This position requires performing a wide range of janitorial and custodial duties such as cleaning floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming; managing waste disposal; changing light bulbs; and restocking sanitary supplies. You will carry out these tasks with minimal supervision, applying attention to detail and using appropriate cleaning equipment and chemicals.
The work schedule typically includes shifts from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM or 3:30 PM to midnight, but may adjust based on service needs. This role is pivotal in supporting the health environment of the facility, underscored by the fact that 85 percent of the housekeeping staff are veterans themselves, fostering a team-oriented atmosphere with shared values and experiences.
