The role of a Check Stand Clerk or Self-Checkout Attendant at WinCo Foods is pivotal in delivering an exceptional shopping experience in a fast-paced retail environment that operates nearly 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This position requires individuals who are customer-focused, friendly, and efficient in processing customer transactions while maintaining accuracy and safety. As part of the team, employees handle diverse payment types, ensure proper product pricing, and maintain clean and organized work areas. The role involves working a variety of shifts, generally lasting from six to eight hours between early morning and late night hours.
Employees in this role may work at a two-aisle check stand, a multi-station self-checkout lane, or the customer service desk, responding to the dynamic needs of the store. Responsibilities extend beyond cash handling to include suggestive selling, managing restricted sales such as tobacco and alcohol by complying with legal regulations, and providing courteous service that reinforces WinCo Foods’ commitment to customer satisfaction. Additionally, self-checkout attendants take on the important task of monitoring multiple checkout stations, assisting customers with transaction issues, and ensuring operational flow to reduce shrinkage and errors.

Employees must be able to lift and maneuver items up to 50 pounds occasionally and respond calmly to high-stress situations, including handling unsatisfied customers. This position also requires individuals to be quick learners who can memorize product information, pricing codes, and company policies to efficiently support customers.

- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays

- Conduct visual inspection of merchandise and read information
- Lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Operate cash registers, scanners and scales
- Stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn for extended periods
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Learn and recall extensive information including PLU codes, product locations and store policies
- Ensure accuracy in scanning, sales verification and monetary handling
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use approved cleaning products to maintain work area
- Navigate high-stress situations and handle unsatisfied customers
- Hold food safety/handlers cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certifications as required by law
