This full-time role provides strategic oversight and management of the city’s Traffic Operations, specifically focusing on Houston’s Intelligent Transportation Systems programs. The Senior Assistant Director oversees operations related to street signs and pavement marking fabrication, installation and maintenance, as well as traffic signal maintenance and installation, ensuring they comply with the city’s policies, procedures, and regulatory mandates. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Transportation and Drainage Operations, this role requires managing vendor contracts rigorously to guarantee performance and delivery standards. It involves continuous analysis and review of new products, data, and techniques to align department policies with technological and regulatory advancements. This position demands effective project management skills to simultaneously advance multiple initiatives towards set objectives. Acting as a liaison with other city departments, government agencies, and the private sector, the role requires excellent communication and collaboration capabilities to ensure shared objectives are met. The Senior Assistant Director is tasked with developing strategic goals, defining staff performance measures, and monitoring budget expenditures to maintain fiscal responsibility.
