The role available within this caring environment is that of a Housekeeping Staff member. The position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of all public and resident areas on a continuous basis throughout the day. Key areas of responsibility include the lobby, restrooms, drinking fountains, floors, resident rooms, bathrooms, handrails, walls, mirrors, windows, light fixtures, towel bars, and towel dispensers. This role involves sweeping, mopping, emptying trash receptacles, and ensuring all spaces are clean and free of dust, dirt, food, and debris.
The Housekeeping Staff must utilize proper safety measures during cleaning processes, including the appropriate use of caution signage and the careful handling and storage of cleaning supplies and chemicals to keep them out of the reach of residents. Following the manufacturer’s user manual instructions to operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively is essential. The individual in this role is also responsible for maintaining housekeeping carts, equipment, and storage areas in a safe, sanitary, orderly, and clean manner. Communication with the Director of Housekeeping, Administrator, or Director of Nursing regarding resident safety concerns or the need for replenishing supplies is a critical part of daily responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, a positive attitude, and strong time management capabilities. The position can be performed independently or as part of a team, although it does not carry supervisory responsibilities. This role emphasizes consistency, responsibility, and attention to detail to uphold the long-term care facility’s standards.
Educationally, the minimum requirement is a high school diploma or a GED. Experience working in long-term care environments is preferred but not mandatory. The position requires functional understanding and fluency in written and spoken English, the ability to read and understand procedural instructions and manuals, and basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret various types of instructions are necessary for success in this position.
Physically, the role may require occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. The employee will regularly perform activities such as sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, talking, reading, and hearing, and will use office-related equipment like copiers, scanners, fax machines, telephones, and calculators, along with daily use of housekeeping supplies and equipment. The work environment is generally low to moderate in noise and odor levels, providing a comfortable atmosphere for employees to perform their duties effectively.
This job does not include supervisory responsibilities but is vital to the overall functionality and hygiene of the facility.
