With nearly 600 locations across 38 states, Gentiva provides compassionate, patient-centered care aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals facing serious illnesses or end-of-life situations. Their extensive network includes several trusted brands such as Emerald Coast Hospice Care and Heartland Home Health, among others. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Gentiva embraces a collaborative work environment that values inspiring achievements and the human kindness essential in healthcare. Gentiva is committed to providing rewarding nursing careers with a strong focus on compassion, skill, and emotional support. The role of the After Hours Hospice RN at Gentiva Hospice is integral to delivering continuous care beyond typical business hours. This position follows a unique work schedule of 7 days on and 7 days off, allowing nurses to work half the month while receiving full-time pay. The After Hours Hospice RN provides urgent and compassionate care during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, helping patients and families in moments when support is most needed. This role involves being the primary liaison among patients, families, physicians, and the hospice team during the nurse's shift, ensuring that all parties are informed and coordinated. Key responsibilities include direct patient care, symptom management, urgent response to calls, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team that includes LPNs/LVNs, CNAs, and other staff. Nurses in this position independently handle patient visits and clinical decisions after normal daytime hours but maintain continuity of care by coordinating with the daytime team. Documentation of clinical visits and communications is essential, as is participation in quality assessment and performance improvement initiatives. The hospice nurse must possess a compassionate demeanor, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to provide emotional support in often intense and sensitive scenarios. This role requires comfort with delivering care in diverse settings, including patients’ homes and care facilities. Benefits include competitive pay, a 401(k) plan with company match, medical, dental, and vision insurance, mileage reimbursement or access to a fleet vehicle program, generous paid time off plus seven paid holidays, wellness programs, education support, free continuing education units, and company-paid life and long-term disability insurance. The After Hours Hospice RN position offers the rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives on a flexible schedule, with comprehensive support to ensure both professional and personal fulfillment. Working in this role means joining a dedicated team that values compassion, teamwork, and quality care, truly embodying the ethos of leading with heart and delivering compassionate care when it matters most.
