The Rotor Wing Pilot role at Air Methods requires individuals to operate the EC135 aircraft under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), ensuring the utmost safety for medical crews and patients during air medical transport missions. This role is vital in bridging the gap between emergency scenes and hospitals by leveraging aviation expertise, sound judgment, and comprehensive knowledge of aircraft and medical systems. The pilot is responsible not only for the safe operation of the aircraft but also for ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual (GOM), and Air Methods' policies.
In addition to flight duties, the pilot completes essential pre-flight and post-flight inspections, signs off on Daily Flight Logs, and performs meticulous flight planning often on short notice. The pilot holds the final authority on aircraft operation and overall safety for passengers, cargo, and medical equipment. Understanding and familiarization with backup aircraft systems and ensuring medical flight team comfort with medical interiors are also critical components of the role.
