The role of the EC145 / VFR Pilot at Air Methods is a critical position responsible for the safe and legal operation of the company’s aircraft to transport medical crews and patients. This role requires an experienced pilot who ensures aircraft and weather conditions are suitable for flight and maintains compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations, the Aeronautical Information Manual, and Air Methods’ General Operations Manual and policies. The pilot completes thorough pre-flight inspections to verify airworthiness, conducts detailed flight planning on short notice, and exercises final authority for the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
The successful candidate will be well-versed in the operation of the EC145 helicopter or equivalent aircraft under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), with deep knowledge of aircraft and medical systems to support backup aircraft at their operational area. They must foster positive relationships with medical flight team members, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the community, contributing actively to Air Methods’ meetings, projects, and outreach initiatives. This position offers a competitive employment package including a $15,000 sign-on bonus and requires regular attendance and readiness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
