The role of Gymnastics Instructor with Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services is a part-time position that focuses on the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of recreational gymnastics programs. This multifaceted job requires an individual who is passionate about gymnastics and committed to fostering a positive learning environment for participants. Depending on qualifications, the instructor role is classified into three pay grades starting at $15.60 per hour for Instructor I, $16.38 per hour for Instructor II, and $17.20 per hour for Instructor III, each reflecting progressively higher requirements in experience and expertise. The position requires working during the school year from Monday through Thursday afternoons and evenings, as well as during summer camps Monday to Friday with longer hours.
Gymnastics Instructors will work closely under the supervision of a Program Specialist to deliver structured classes and related gymnastics activities. Responsibilities include teaching gymnastics skills, overseeing participant safety, managing equipment and supplies, enforcing facility policies, and evaluating student progress to ensure appropriate placement in classes. This role also involves supporting program development by providing feedback and recommendations on program policies, as well as engaging in administrative duties such as preparing handouts and maintaining program records.
Successful candidates should demonstrate knowledge of gymnastics principles and recreational program management along with effective communication and organizational skills. The ability to adapt to changes in policies, work collaboratively with staff, parents, and participants, and maintain a safe and welcoming environment are paramount. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. While no benefits are offered with this part-time position, instructors gain valuable experience in community recreation, youth development, and gymnastics coaching. This role is ideal for individuals aged 15 and older with varying levels of gymnastics experience, from beginners to seasoned coaches, looking to make a tangible impact in their community through sport and physical education.

- Must have regular and predictable attendance
- Must be able to work Monday through Thursday from 2:45 pm to 7:30 pm during school year and Monday through Friday from 8:45 am to 4:15 pm during summer camps
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently
- Must work cooperatively with others
- Must abide by Athens-Clarke County's safe driving policy if operating a vehicle
- Must have knowledge of gymnastics program principles and related laws, ordinances and policies
- Must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing
- Must be physically able to perform job duties which include standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, and hearing
