The Guest Services Assistant (GSA) at UnityPoint Health serves as a vital front door ambassador connecting patients, families, visitors, physicians, affiliates, students, clergy, and employees with the healthcare system. Positioned at the Guest Services or Information/Greeter/Health Screening desks, the GSA is responsible for facilitating a welcoming atmosphere while managing key operations such as health screening, visitor management, wayfinding, concierge services, transportation coordination, and guest lodging assistance. This role requires versatility to support either desk as operational needs arise, ensuring seamless customer service and safety within hospital and clinic environments.
In addition to greeting and assisting guests, the GSA coordinates interpreter scheduling for contracted language services, oversees cash reconciliation and handling, manages external transportation billing and cash posting, and maintains Lost & Found items. A critical aspect of this position involves conducting wellness screenings aligned with organizational and CDC guidelines, promoting a safe experience for everyone entering the facilities. The role demands excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse population, a strong commitment to confidentiality, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently when needed.
With a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, candidates should bring at least two years of post-high school experience in fast-paced office, reception, healthcare, or customer service settings. Proficiency with MS Office Suite applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with solid typing skills and strong math abilities for cash handling, are required. The Guest Services Assistant must excel in multitasking, managing multi-line phone systems, and problem-solving while maintaining a professional demeanor and appearance. Preferred qualifications that enhance candidacy include familiarity with EPIC scheduling software, prior cash handling experience, public notary certification, knowledge of medical terminology and hospitality services, and understanding of hospital departments and operations.
