The role available within the Room Service team at Brigham and Women's Hospital offers an integral frontline service function. The incumbent is responsible for assisting and delivering patient-specific, high-quality meals and exemplary customer service to patients, guests, and staff in a timely and friendly manner. Working closely with other team members and hospital personnel, this position ensures that food delivered meets prescribed dietary orders while adhering to strict sanitation and safety protocols outlined in the Food Service Department's Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) program and hospital policies. Key duties include preparing aesthetically pleasing and fully accurate meal trays within stipulated timeframes, managing cold and hot food production to maintain high quality, and executing the timely delivery and pickup of trays across inpatient and outpatient areas. The role also involves handling patient meal service requests and issues promptly, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to food safety and health codes. Additionally, responsibilities include inventory management for nursing station refrigerator supplies, temperature recording for stored food, cashier tasks involving billing and accepting payments for guest and staff orders, equipment operation and sanitation, and participation in team training and administrative data collection. Successful candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, numeracy aptitude, multitasking capabilities, and a friendly disposition that supports positive interactions with patients and staff alike. Experience in food service, customer service, and knowledge of therapeutic diets and healthcare-specific food regulations are highly desirable. This position is physically demanding, requiring standing for prolonged periods, occasional heavy lifting, working in varied temperature environments, and adherence to safety standards to avoid injury or errors. Shift work, including weekends and holidays, is required.
