The National Geographic Society is a globally renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to exploring and preserving our planet through education, research, and storytelling. Based in Washington, D.C., the Society is undertaking an ambitious renovation project called Base Camp, slated for completion in 2026. This project will transform the headquarters into a vibrant campus featuring the new National Geographic Museum of Exploration. The museum will serve as a central hub of discovery and learning, boasting cutting-edge amenities such as a pavilion entrance, an auditorium, an iconic photo gallery, exhibition spaces, an immersive walk-through attraction, retail shops, food and beverage outlets, an education center, archives, tours, and dynamic event spaces. A signature feature of the renovation will be a unique nighttime experience in the outdoor courtyard, providing visitors with memorable and engaging moments after dark. As part of this exciting transformation, the National Geographic Society is seeking a Group Experience Manager to lead the facilitation and oversight of group visits at Base Camp. This role is central to ensuring that group visitors—from schools and youth organizations to tourism groups and other parties—receive exceptional experiences throughout their visit. The Group Experience Manager will manage the entire group journey, from reservation through post-visit follow-up, carefully coordinating arrivals, special requests, and group flow to create a seamless and enjoyable experience. Partnering closely with the Group Sales team and various internal departments such as Visitor Experience, Catering, Ticketing, and Security, the manager will be instrumental in delivering top-tier visitor satisfaction. This position demands someone with extensive experience in tourism or attraction settings—such as museums, zoos, or aquariums—and a demonstrated ability to manage teams effectively. The role involves both strategic program development and on-the-ground operational management, including the development of group programming strategies, managing dining and tours, and implementing customer feedback systems. Additionally, the role requires flexibility to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays, ensuring the best possible experience aligned with group schedules. The Group Experience Manager will also play an important role in community engagement by participating in conferences, fostering relationships with local youth organizations, and supporting outreach efforts through branded merchandise. The successful candidate will bring strong communication skills, organizational acumen, and a detail-oriented approach to managing logistics and visitor interactions. This role reports to the Director of Group Sales and Experience and offers a competitive salary range of $66,500 to $70,000, reflective of experience and qualifications. The National Geographic Society values its staff by offering a comprehensive benefits package that supports overall wellness, professional growth, and work-life balance. This package includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) matching, generous paid time off policies, parental leave, and many additional perks. With a commitment to inclusive hiring practices, the Society welcomes candidates with relevant experience who are eager to contribute to the growth of this storied institution and help shape the future of the National Geographic Museum of Exploration.
