The Grounds Foreman position is a critical supervisory and skilled labor role within the Maintenance, Custodial, and Groundskeeping department. Reporting under the general supervision of administrators, the Grounds Foreman is responsible for planning, directing, and executing maintenance activities on district grounds and related exterior areas. The role demands a blend of hands-on gardening, landscaping expertise, and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will ensure the district’s grounds are kept in excellent condition through the supervision of multiple groundskeepers and related personnel.
This role encompasses diverse responsibilities including planning annual maintenance schedules, preparing cost estimates, and supervising gardening operations such as watering, mowing, pruning, and pest control. The Grounds Foreman also oversees snow removal and the set-up of special events, contributing to the district’s operational readiness year-round. This position requires someone capable of not only managing and motivating a team but also assessing and continuously improving grounds maintenance programs in alignment with district goals.
Candidates for this position must be knowledgeable about horticultural practices, pest management, herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers, and skilled in the use of groundskeeping equipment. The Grounds Foreman must demonstrate a solid ability to plan and organize work efficiently and maintain effective working relationships with employees and administrators. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, complemented by four years of relevant experience in gardening and groundskeeping, with at least two years in a supervisory role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
