Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) is a well-established public school district located in Peoria, Arizona, known for its commitment to providing quality education and comprehensive student support services. Among its many departments, the Food and Nutrition Services department plays a crucial role in ensuring students receive nutritious meals that meet federal and state nutrition guidelines. This unit manages cafeteria operations across numerous elementary, middle, and high schools within the district, emphasizing health, safety, and efficient service in its food programs. The district strives to maintain high standards in paperwork, hygiene, and customer service while supporting student eligibility programs for free and reduced-cost meals, contributing to the wellbeing of its diverse student population. The role of Kitchen Manager, Receiving, within PUSD’s Food and Nutrition Services department, is a pivotal position responsible for overseeing the operation and distribution of food and related kitchen activities at Apache Elementary in Peoria. This is a Food Service/Manager position with a term of employment lasting 9.5 months, falling under salary classification 12. Reporting directly to the Director of Food and Nutrition Services, the Kitchen Manager will lead the food service team, managing all aspects of kitchen operations including food preparation supervision, inventory control, food safety compliance, and financial tasks related to cash handling and purchasing. In this role, the Kitchen Manager leads and supervises personnel by providing training, coordinating schedules, establishing performance goals, and evaluating work performance. They assign, plan, and oversee food preparation ensuring compliance with menus, schedules, and nutritional requirements. The manager is also accountable for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards within the kitchen and food service areas, ensuring health code compliance. Responsibilities include overseeing food product deliveries, verifying quality and quantity against orders, managing inventory storage, preparing food production worksheets, and overseeing cash transactions related to food sales. This role demands strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations as well as proficiency in bookkeeping, inventory control, and nutrition standards. The ideal candidate must be capable of operating various software applications to maintain records and reports. This position requires a high school diploma or GED plus five years of progressively responsible experience in food service preparation, cooking, baking, or kitchen management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must have a valid IVP Fingerprint Card, be able to pass a background check, obtain and maintain certification as a Food Service Manager, and possess a valid Arizona driver license. Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in environments with extreme temperature changes. Flexibility to work outside normal hours and travel as necessary are also required.
