NYC, NY, USA, NY Full-Time $79,473 - $110,000
The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods throughout New York City. As a government agency, NYC DOT is charged with managing one of the most complex transportation networks in the world, supporting over 8.5 million residents, 4 million jobs, and 62 million tourists annually. The agency is committed to economic vitality, social livability, and environmental sustainability, recognizing the critical importance of freight mobility in the city's logistics and supply chain system. With nearly 90% of the city's goods transported by trucks, NYC DOT faces significant challenges related to congestion, pollution, infrastructure wear, and the impact on residential neighborhoods. The Freight Mobility Unit within NYC DOT's Regional and Strategic Planning division specifically addresses these challenges by developing innovative policies, programs, and infrastructure improvements aimed at creating a safer, more sustainable, and efficient urban freight system. This position, Freight Strategy Lead (Civil Service Title: Associate Staff Analyst), is a full-time role based in Manhattan at 55 Water Street, New York, NY 10041. The annual salary range for this role is between $79,473 and $110,000. The role offers a hybrid work model, allowing up to two days of remote work per week under the city's Remote Work Pilot Program. The Freight Strategy Lead works closely with the Freight Mobility unit director and deputy directors to manage key grant-funded initiatives such as the Urban Freight Collaborative USDOT-funded RAISE grant and supports the administration of the Freight Advisory Committee. Responsibilities include managing project timelines, budgets, and compliance, coordinating stakeholder engagement with a broad array of industry, agency, and community partners, and developing content for the Freight Mobility newsletter. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a nationally recognized, award-winning team that is on the forefront of urban freight innovation, directly impacting New York City's infrastructure and environmental goals. The ideal candidate for this role will possess strong communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience in grant administration, strategic planning, and transportation systems—particularly urban freight and logistics—is highly valued. Proficiency with transportation planning tools, data visualization software, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office is preferred. The position requires candidates to be serving permanently as Associate Staff Analysts, be eligible on the civil service list, or qualify under the 55a program. Candidates will contribute to a team environment that values mentorship, collaboration, and data-driven policy development. This role is essential in advancing sustainable freight policies that support the economic and social vitality of New York City while mitigating adverse impacts on communities and the environment.
