The position of Floater at Sadler Dining Hall within the Food Service department at Syracuse University is a full-time, non-exempt role that pays between $20.007 and $22.229 per hour. The role is part of the bargaining unit under the union code UF and requires flexibility as the assignment can change daily among various food service related positions. Primary responsibilities include working as a cashier, snack bar helper, cook helper, pizza maker, storeroom attendant, and food handler, in accordance with established procedures and instructions. The pay rates are determined based on multiple factors including job responsibilities, candidate's education, training, experience, and internal and external equity considerations. The work schedule for this position is primarily from 1:30 pm to 10 pm on Friday through Tuesday, with Wednesday and Thursday off, although all days and hours are subject to change.
The ideal candidate will have at least three months of previous food service experience and the ability to read, write, and follow instructions effectively. Strong communication skills and the ability to handle cash transactions accurately, including making change and using a calculator and computerized cash register, are essential. Some positions in the range may require experience with fresh dough products. The role involves preparing various simple foods, salads, sandwiches, and pizzas to franchise specifications, handling stock receipt and rotation, performing inventory checks, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in compliance with health and safety regulations. Equipment proficiency is also necessary, as the role requires operation of diverse kitchen and food service tools including POS terminals, grills, deep fryers, ovens, mixers, and coffee machines, among others.
