Pumphouse Brewery is one of the largest single-location independent restaurants in the United States, renowned for serving high-quality pub food in a casual and welcoming environment. Established for 27 years, Pumphouse Brewery has built a strong reputation as a large and high-volume brewpub and sports bar, combining two vibrant venues in one location. Our establishment is employee-owned, highlighting our commitment to teamwork, staff empowerment, and sustainable business growth. Located on-site and offering a dynamic workplace, we pride ourselves on providing an engaging and rewarding atmosphere for both our employees and patrons. The company culture centers around quality, consistency, and a passion for the food and beverage industry, making Pumphouse Brewery an exciting place to build a career. We seek dedicated individuals who embrace these values and are driven to help us continue our journey into the future. We are currently seeking a hard-working, hands-on Executive Chef with outstanding culinary, leadership, and management skills to join our senior leadership team. The Executive Chef will be an integral part of an established business that has enjoyed over two decades of success and will play a vital role in charting our next decade of growth and innovation. This is a full-time position offering a competitive base salary between $90,000 and $100,000 per year, complemented by an aggressive bonus potential. The role comes with an excellent benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with matching, profit-sharing opportunities, and employee ownership participation. The Executive Chef will lead and manage the back-of-house (BOH) kitchen team, fostering a high-performing and harmonious work environment. This leadership role demands someone who can both take initiative and direction effectively, ensuring operational excellence at every level. Responsibilities include managing kitchen operations to maintain consistent quality, efficiency, and speed of execution. The Executive Chef will oversee menu development by creating new dishes, running specials, and refining existing recipes to maintain exceptional standards and appeal. Maintaining food costs within established target percentages and ensuring menu profitability will fall under this role's financial oversight. Additionally, the Executive Chef will be responsible for hiring, firing, training, and coaching kitchen staff, ensuring that all administrative duties are completed accurately and punctually. Scheduling kitchen staff to balance business volume and labor cost containment is also a critical aspect of the role. The Executive Chef must oversee food and supply ordering and implement preventive maintenance plans for kitchen equipment, including addressing unplanned repairs creatively and efficiently. An ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot kitchen equipment in real time, maintaining smooth operations during critical moments. Beyond operational duties, the Executive Chef will provide motivating and respectful leadership to a seasoned team, including several sous chefs. Emphasis on coaching, teaching, and fostering mutual respect and open communication within the team is essential. Financial acumen is critical, including managing food and labor costs and other controllable expenses to drive profitability. Attention to detail is paramount in all facets of the kitchen's management, from cleanliness and organization to administrative oversight and personalized workload management. Our ideal candidate will possess formal culinary training or comparable extensive informal training, with at least three years of experience as an Executive Chef or equivalent role in a high-volume restaurant environment generating at least $8 million in annual sales. Prior experience in catering, hotels, or golf clubs is not applicable. The candidate should demonstrate a proven track record of longevity in their previous positions, a passion for the restaurant business, and resilience in the demanding environment of a busy kitchen. Spanish language proficiency is an added advantage. The Executive Chef position offers a unique opportunity to join a renowned independent brewpub and sports bar with a large and diverse menu that emphasizes great-tasting, unpretentious food in generous portions at outstanding value. We do not compromise on quality or menu diversity. This role promises a challenging and rewarding career path within a company that values its people and their contributions highly.
