The Executive Chef role at the Mercury Training Facility is a pivotal leadership position responsible for managing the culinary operations for players, coaches, and staff during the WNBA season. This position demands a blend of culinary expertise, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of nutrition as it relates to peak athletic performance. The Executive Chef leads a robust culinary team, ensuring that meals not only meet the highest standards of taste and presentation but also align with specific nutrition and wellness objectives essential for athletes’ health and recovery.
The successful candidate will oversee all facets of culinary operations, including menu planning, staff management, food quality control, and compliance with health and safety standards. This role requires a hands-on leadership approach, where the Executive Chef is actively involved in supervising, coaching, and mentoring a dedicated team of culinary professionals. They will be responsible for hiring, disciplinary actions, promotions, and fostering a positive work environment that respects all employees and promotes teamwork.
Key responsibilities include budget management with attention to food costs and labor efficiency, as well as coordinating all food service activities, including catered events. The Executive Chef will maintain rigorous standards regarding food safety, sanitation, and kitchen organization. This role demands flexibility in working hours to accommodate a variable, event-driven schedule which may include evenings and weekends.
Compensation for this full-time role ranges between $75,000 and $85,000 annually, reflecting the importance and seniority of the position.                 - Culinary degree or equivalent high-level culinary experience
 - Minimum 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in culinary roles
 - Strong background in wellness-focused or performance dining
 - Expertise in recipe development and menu engineering
 - Proven leadership skills
 - Knowledge of athlete nutrition and dietary requirements
 - Experience managing budgets and labor
 - ServSafe Manager certification or equivalent
 - Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
