The role of Director of Customs Customer Support for DHL Express Americas is a key leadership position focused on managing and advancing the customs support function. This role is responsible for positioning Customs Services as a core competitive differentiator and value proposition for both internal stakeholders and external customers. Reporting to the Vice President of Customs and Regulatory Affairs for the Americas, the Director will liaise and collaborate extensively across multiple departments including Operations, IT, Commercial, and Customer Operations Group stakeholders to analyze regulatory changes and their impact on DHL’s service offerings. The person in this role will prepare, coordinate, and propose changes ensuring compliance with customs regulations while creating added value for customers. This role involves creatively developing strategies to enhance Customs Customer satisfaction by guiding regulatory projects and customer solutions that meet legal obligations and leverage DHL’s customs capacities. The Director drives business development by continuously analyzing current and emerging regulatory frameworks and aligning DHL’s capabilities to optimize service delivery. They also act as a vital source of trade knowledge by reviewing and interpreting customs laws and regulations in coordination with regulatory affairs teams and stakeholders, ensuring DHL and its customers stay informed about any legislative changes that may impact business practices. Key responsibilities include serving as the primary point of contact for customer operations, sales, and other internal teams for customs-related queries, designing region-specific customer solutions and tools to maintain compliance and drive standards, and facilitating the communication of regulatory expectations to both internal teams and external customers. This role requires close collaboration with global leaders to ensure cohesive input and unified action across different regions and functional lines of business. The Director is expected to provide leadership by delivering expert advice, training, and developing standard operating procedures related to customs regulations and DHL’s customs capabilities. Effective communication and education of regulatory changes to both functional teams and customers form a critical part of the day-to-day role. This is a senior-level position requiring a blend of deep technical knowledge in customs, trade law, and regulatory matters, combined with strong business acumen and leadership capabilities. As a strategic thinker with strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage cross-cultural and cross-functional teams, the Director will play a pivotal role driving DHL's customs compliance and customer service excellence across the Americas. The role is based in Plantation, FL, Miami, FL, or Cincinnati, OH, and includes limited domestic and international travel (around 10%).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Active Customs broker’s license or equivalent qualification in Customs/External Trade Law preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in customs technical roles and trade legislation
  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in logistics or express business
  • Demonstrated experience managing or supporting customs compliance programs
  • Extensive knowledge of customs audit processes
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%
