The available position is for a Food Service Worker I/II within the Nutrition Department on a part-time, temporary basis with employment limited to a maximum term of nine months. The hourly compensation ranges from $18.3628 to $23.2700, reflecting just a portion of the overall compensation package, which may include additional pay through shift differentials, incentives, and performance bonuses. This role is crucial to the smooth operation of the hospital's cafeteria and kitchen areas, involving various food preparation, service, and sanitation duties under direct supervision. As a Food Service Worker I/II, you will be responsible for ensuring that the cafeteria and kitchen facilities are maintained in a clean and orderly state, efficiently handling dishwashing tasks using specialized machinery, and assisting with basic food preparation. You will also be serving food to the public and delivering meals to patients, requiring excellent customer service skills and adherence to health and safety standards. This role is considered entry-level or trainee within the Food Service Worker classification series. It involves following established procedures for routine and repetitive tasks, with supervision and guidance from the Food Service Director. Employees who demonstrate competence and meet the minimum requirements may be promoted to Food Service Worker II on a merit basis, without the need for further examination, upon recommendation by department leadership and personnel approval. Beyond the core duties, the Food Service Worker will also operate food service-related equipment such as cash registers and beverage machines, maintain cleanliness of kitchen tools, utensils, pots, and pans, and ensure that all food service areas including dining tables and grill areas are hygienically maintained. The role requires physical stamina to sweep, mop, load, and unload dishwashing machines, and replenish condiments on serving lines. Additionally, workers will unpack and store supplies as needed and carry out other related job responsibilities. Candidates for this position must possess fundamental knowledge of food handling techniques, kitchen tool usage, sanitation and safety protocols, and the ability to follow recipes and instructions both written and oral. Strong customer relations skills and personal cleanliness standards are also important for success.
