The Customs Brokerage Specialist position is an integral part of UPS's customs operations team. This role involves troubleshooting and resolving documentation discrepancies with customers and foreign origins to ensure smooth and compliant customs transactions. The Specialist audits commercial documents and applies harmonized tariff schedule codes to guarantee accurate duty assessments and adherence to all federal requirements. This position also manages general customs brokerage activities alongside routine office and data entry responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include the preparation and submission of customs entries, coordination with international and domestic carriers, overseas offices, and importers to forward freight efficiently to designated locations. The Specialist follows up on the clearance processes for all prepared entries, ensuring timely compliance. Effective communication of documentation discrepancies to clients and supervisors is essential, as is coordinating freight delivery and resolving finance and accounting reconciliation issues that arise. The role requires filing entries through the GBS-CM system accurately and in a timely manner, including scanning entries into the imaging system while meeting sensitive time restrictions.
Administrative duties are also a part of this role, requiring the preparation of reports, presentations, and analyses using various software and databases. Daily follow-up on documentation discrepancies demands strong troubleshooting skills and effective verbal and written communication with customers and foreign entities. The ability to establish and maintain strong client relationships is critical to success in this position. Additionally, this role may require working on a weekend schedule on a departmental rotation basis and potentially during holidays, depending on operational needs and account requirements.
