U-Haul is a well-established company that has been serving the moving needs of customers since 1945. Founded by L.S. "Sam" Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, U-Haul was created to address the widespread demand for do-it-yourself moving equipment that could be rented on a one-way, nationwide basis across the U.S. and Canada. The company revolutionized the moving industry by spreading the cost of equipment ownership among many users, much like the transformation of the pioneer wagon into the iconic orange U-Haul trailers. U-Haul Holding Company and its family of companies focus strongly on building a culture of health and wellness for their employees. Since February 2020, they have implemented a policy in certain states to decline hiring individuals who use nicotine products, in line with broader health initiatives.
