The Facilities Custodian position is a key role within the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department in Tukwila. This job primarily involves performing routine custodial duties along with minor maintenance activities across various city buildings, including office properties and the Tukwila Community Center. Spanning an impressive 150,000 square feet of space under custodial care, the position requires a self-starter who is punctual, dependable, and capable of working independently to maintain high cleanliness and safety standards. Working under the supervision of the Facilities Superintendent, the custodian will be an integral part of a dedicated team responsible for keeping multiple city properties, totalling approximately 233,633 square feet across thirty-eight facilities, in excellent condition. Facilities managed include the main City Hall, municipal office buildings, community centers, libraries, fire stations, maintenance facilities, public restrooms, and other public buildings. The role involves a variety of tasks ranging from cleaning and servicing buildings to disinfecting restrooms and replenishing supplies, dusting and polishing furniture, and handling trash disposal. Custodians are expected to operate a range of cleaning equipment such as carpet extractors, auto-scrubbers, lifts, shampoo machines, and vacuums to maintain floors, carpets, furniture, and windows in pristine condition. Additional responsibilities include minor facilities maintenance such as changing light bulbs, climbing ladders, setting up furniture for events, maintaining supply inventories, and responding promptly to non-routine situations like chemical releases or fire alarms. The position requires regular attendance during a Sunday through Thursday midnight to 8:00 am schedule and involves physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, climbing, and operating machinery. Candidates must be physically capable of exerting medium work, including moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
