The role of Cook at MorningStar Senior Living in Boise is an essential position that involves preparing and serving nutritious, balanced, and attractive meals to senior residents. This is a non-exempt position with a pay rate starting at $20.00 per hour, which may increase based on experience. The work schedule is flexible and discussed during the interview, with a possibility of working on weekends, specifically Saturdays or Sundays on a weekly basis. The cook plays a pivotal role in ensuring that meals meet the dietary specifications and are prepared with attention to taste, nutritional value, and presentation. Responsibilities include preparing various types of dishes such as meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruits, soups, salads, desserts, breads, and pastries. The cook must adhere to federal and state regulations, as well as company policies, to guarantee food safety and quality.
Beyond meal preparation, the cook is expected to have a deep understanding of food handling techniques, portion control, seasoning, and proper cooking times for various ingredients. This includes peeling, washing, trimming, and cutting food items and applying cooking techniques like baking, roasting, stewing, and steaming. The role requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure meals are appetizing and meet the individualized dietary needs of the residents. Additionally, the cook will prepare cold foods like sandwiches and cereals and ensure that all meals are served according to dietary guidelines, checking trays for accuracy before serving.

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous experience in dietary or food service preferred
- ability to read and write English
- familiarity with large quantity food preparation
