The Cook position at UCSF Medical Center is a crucial role within the culinary services team. This role involves the preparation of food for various services including Patient Food Services, Cafés, Coffee Shops, and conference center events. The Cook is responsible for establishing and monitoring food quality standards to ensure consistency and the highest standards of food safety and quality, including temperature monitoring. As a vital member of the culinary services team, the Cook plays an active role in solving operational problems before, during, and after meal periods, ensuring smooth and efficient food service operations. Working in this capacity requires not only strong culinary skills but also adherence to safety and sanitation guidelines within the department. The incumbent will assist in maintaining these standards to provide a safe and hygienic environment for both staff and patients. The role offers a per diem employment type with a salary rate of $36.23 per hour, subject to final approvals and internal equity considerations, including union rules for represented positions. This position requires flexibility to work across all UCSF Health locations, providing the opportunity to gain diverse experience in a large, sophisticated healthcare setting. Positions are fully on-site with shifts available during days and evenings, and each work shift lasts eight hours. • State of California Food Handler Certification or within three months of hire
• High school diploma or combination of education and experience
• Graduation from a recognized Culinary School or two years food production experience
• Ability to read, write and be understood in English
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations
