The Cook position at The Inn on Westport is integral to the success of the culinary team and plays a vital role in enhancing the overall community experience. This role focuses primarily on preparing cold foods, bakery items, and salads that meet the highest standards of quality and presentation. The Cook may also be called upon to prepare a variety of hot meals such as burgers, fries, eggs, and other hot dishes based on business needs, ensuring flexibility and teamwork within the kitchen. All food preparation follows strict federal, state, and local food safety regulations, as well as established policies and procedures to ensure resident health and satisfaction.

The Cook will be a key contributor to this mission by consistently providing appetizing, safe, and nutritious meals that adhere to prescribed menus and dietary restrictions. Working shifts include varied hours, such as 10:30 am to 7 pm or 5 am to 1:30 pm, with a schedule that includes every other weekend and holiday shifts, making flexibility and dependability essential qualities for this position.
Aside from daily meal preparation, the Cook participates in food preparation for special events, parties, and other community gatherings, supporting the culinary team to ensure all offerings are timely and delicious. Maintaining cleanliness and safety in all work areas is a critical component of the role, as is assisting with inventory control and the replenishment of food supplies. This ensures an efficient kitchen operation and readiness for each day's meals.
Ideal candidates will have one or more years of food preparation experience in a directly related field, preferably with a culinary background. Proficiency in English and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite enhance communication and organizational efficiency within the role. Additionally, having an active Serve Safe Certification or Food Handlers Certificate is preferred, though new hires without this certification will be required to obtain it within the first six months of employment with support from the Chef or Culinary Director.
