The Cook position at UCSF Health is a critical role within the Nutrition & Food Services department, primarily based at Parnassus Heights with orientation and potential work assignments at various UCSF medical center locations including Mission Bay, Mt. Zion, St. Mary's, and St. Francis hospitals. This role is essential in supporting the department's mission by preparing food safely, accurately, and in a timely manner that meets the nutritional needs of patients, staff, and retail customers. The Cook is responsible not only for food preparation but also for important ancillary tasks such as stocking, assembling, and serving portion-controlled hot and cold food items while maintaining stringent sanitation standards throughout foodservice areas and equipment. The employee serves as a Culinary Ambassador for the department, providing excellent customer service and fostering positive interactions with patients and staff.
The position requires flexibility to work across multiple hospital sites within the UCSF system. It demands strong attention to food quality and temperature standards to ensure consistency and the highest quality standards in Nutrition & Food Services. Additionally, this role involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in compliance with health regulations and UCSF policies. Compensation for this role is offered on an hourly basis, with a salary range from $31.20 to $41.99 depending on experience, skills, and internal equity, guided by UC policy and collective bargaining agreements where applicable.                 - High school diploma or equivalent work experience
 - graduation from a recognized culinary school or two years food production experience
 - ability to read, write, follow written or oral instructions and be understood in English
 - basic computer skills
 - flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
 - ability to meet physical demands involved with job duties
 - State of California Food Handler certification must be obtained within three months of hire
