This position is a flexible part-time role with no guaranteed hours and the possibility to work up to 40 hours per week, scheduled as needed. It is important to note that this position is not eligible for benefits, aligning with the nature of Non-appropriated Fund roles. Physical demands of the job include continual standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. The job also requires frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasional assistance when moving heavier items exceeding 40 pounds.
The primary role of this position involves preparing and cooking a wide variety of simple food items. Responsibilities include preparing foods that require little or no processing, such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and vegetables both fresh and canned. The cook will also prepare hot cereals, broiled meats, concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies, as well as cold sandwich fillings. Convenience items like frozen hash browns, fish fillets, and chicken nuggets are part of the menu, with some cooks additionally responsible for baking pizzas.
The cook will also engage in food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, or breading ingredients. They are responsible for weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients for regular menu items, setting up and replenishing the salad bar, and portioning foods for distribution and meal service. Proper handling includes covering, dating, and storing leftovers according to established procedures, ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards. Also, routine washing and cleaning of kitchen equipment is a crucial part of maintaining a hygienic food preparation environment.
Following written recipes accurately is essential to guaranteeing quality products, efficient preparation times, and minimizing food waste. The role may also encompass other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall team effort in delivering excellent food service to customers. This job supports the ongoing operation of the golf course's food services, directly impacting the satisfaction and experience of the base community.
