This part-time Cook 1 position at the Health Science Campus Hospital in Toledo, OH, is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food service in a healthcare environment. As a Cook 1 within the Food and Nutritional Services team, the role primarily involves preparing, seasoning, and cooking food for hospital patients, employees, students, and visitors. The position requires adherence to the highest standards of food safety, quality, and hygiene in accordance with hospital policies and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures. Employees must consistently uphold UTMC’s service values, including iCare standards, ensuring an excellent dining experience and contributing positively to patient and staff well-being.
The Cook 1 must be knowledgeable about patient safety, quality of care issues, and able to quickly recognize and address safety concerns related to food handling and preparation. Responsibilities include securing, storing, producing, and holding food safely, monitoring refrigerator and freezer temperatures, rotating stock, and discarding expired products with proper labeling and dating. The role also involves following department-specific safety education and training to maintain a safe and clean work environment, and contributing to continuous performance improvement.
This position operates on a shift from 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM with weekend and holiday work required. The salary offered is $16.81 per hour. The role requires physical stamina including standing and walking for long periods and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds or push carts. The Cook 1 position does not float, and there is no on-call or travel required. - High school diploma or GED equivalent or food prep experience
- Knowledge of basic quantity cooking principles and use of food preparation and cooking equipment
- Ability to add subtract multiply and divide whole numbers
- One to three year experience and/or education in quantity food preparation and use of quantity food equipment
- Requires full range of body motion manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time
- May require lifting up to 50 pounds or pushing carts
- Ability to read and write simple sentences
- Must demonstrate customer service skills
