This role of Communications Center Radio Operator is pivotal in supporting the seamless communication between aircraft and ground stations. As a Communications Center Radio Operator, you will operate sophisticated HF/VHF radio systems, telephony equipment, and computer systems to transcribe and relay critical aviation communications in real-time. This responsibility requires meticulous attention to detail, superior typing skills (40 words per minute), and the ability to interpret and transmit Air Traffic Control clearances, advisories, and information promptly and accurately. Your role is essential to keeping all relevant aviation parties informed about in-flight anomalies and other critical information that impacts flight safety. You will be required to obtain a Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit through the FCC if not already held.
The job operates within a 24/7 environment, which requires flexibility to work mandatory shift schedules, including holidays. Candidates must meet specific auditory and visual requirements in compliance with FAA safety guidelines, which include passing a vision and hearing assessment to ensure capability in performing essential functions of the role.
This position offers comprehensive training, including learning to transcribe pilot communications into airline and FAA systems using various communication technologies and becoming familiar with aviation weather code symbols, Air Traffic Control procedures, and communication regulations.
