The role available is that of a General Manager, responsible for the overall management and success of the hotel operations. This leadership position focuses on managing profitability, guest services, product quality, and the maintenance and cleanliness of the hotel property. Operating within the framework of approved annual budgets, marketing plans, capital expenditure budgets, and wage plans, the General Manager ensures the hotel runs efficiently and profitably while adhering to all company policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities include leading the Executive Committee with a participative management style by maintaining strong communication, coordinating department operations and special projects, and resolving challenges to protect and advance the financial interests of the hotel. The General Manager develops and oversees the annual operating budget and assures that the hotel’s financial goals are met through vigilant accounting controls and fiscal management.
Departmental objectives are established quarterly with clear priorities and action plans, and the GM closely monitors progress and implements corrective actions as needed. Accurate forecasting of operating staff and expenditures is conducted on a monthly basis, aligning the business plan with sales expectations. The General Manager regularly analyzes profit and loss statements to identify and address issues and controls expenses to ensure resources are wisely spent.
Building and maintaining strong staff relations and morale are vital aspects of this role. The GM fosters loyalty and esprit de corps through open communication, staff counseling, employee development, and performance evaluations. Hiring competent and qualified management personnel is essential to uphold hotel standards. Compensation and wage administration are reviewed regularly within company guidelines.
Strategic planning for future business includes quarterly reviews of bookings and banquet sales, positioning the hotel to maximize revenue during slow periods through yield management. Pricing strategies across rooms, restaurant, lounge, and banquet services are reviewed and adjusted competitively.
Regular inspections of all hotel areas—guest rooms, public spaces, banquet setups, and back-of-house operations—are conducted to ensure quality standards and guest satisfaction. Preventive maintenance programs are developed and followed to maintain the facility, landscape, and equipment in prime condition.
The General Manager also leads the development and monitoring of comprehensive sales and marketing plans and reviews sales activities and productivity. Food and beverage promotions are monitored closely to foster revenue growth. Credit policies are upheld across front office, sales, and catering departments, with oversight of collections and aging reports.
Community relations are actively maintained to solidify the hotel's reputation as a responsible and engaged corporate citizen within the local area. Compliance with all company policies and procedures is ensured throughout the hotel operations.
This position requires a four-year college degree or equivalent education and experience, with previous experience as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager in a similar-sized and type hotel.
