The role of Chef Supervisor within the Lynwood Unified School District is a pivotal leadership position within the Nutrition Services team. This full-time, 12-month position offers a competitive monthly salary range of $5,995 to $7,286, equating to an hourly wage of approximately $34.59 to $42.03 and an annual salary range of $71,940 to $87,432. The Chef Supervisor is responsible for overseeing food production, recipe development, menu planning, and the overall operation of catering and school nutrition programs at the district's central kitchen. Reporting directly to the Director of Nutrition Services, the Chef Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring that all meals meet established nutrition standards while adhering to HACCP guidelines and fiscal requirements. The position involves planning, organizing, and coordinating large-scale food preparation activities, supervising and evaluating staff performance, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. The Chef Supervisor is also tasked with developing and implementing training programs, conducting on-site monitoring, and providing guidance and technical expertise to Nutrition Services personnel. Beyond kitchen management, the Chef Supervisor contributes to the strategic goals of the department by collaborating in budget planning for school and catering menus, troubleshooting production issues, and improving operational efficiency through inventory control and equipment evaluation. Additionally, the role includes organizing special projects and nutrition education events, as well as engaging in digital media campaigns to promote the district's nutrition programs within the community. Candidates suited for this role will have an Associate's degree in culinary arts, dietetics, food and nutrition, hotel and restaurant management, or a related field. They should bring at least three years of culinary experience managing large food service operations, including two years in a supervisory capacity within school food service, hospital food service, institutional food service, contract food service programs, or restaurant management. Certification as a Food Safety Manager and a valid California Class C driver’s license are mandatory, along with the ability to participate in ongoing training to maintain knowledge of current food safety and nutrition standards. The physical demands of this position include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in temperature-varied environments, and stand or walk for significant portions of the workday. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong skills in project management, organization, communication, and problem-solving, enabling them to lead a diverse team effectively while maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
