The role of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the Adult Acute Care unit on 4 North at UMMC is a vital position in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. This full-time position is hourly and is designed for individuals who have earned their CNA certification through the Mississippi State Department of Health and have or are willing to acquire CPR certification (Heartsaver or BLS) within 90 days of employment. The CNA works under the supervision and guidance of registered nurses, assisting with both direct and indirect patient care in adherence to institutional policies, nursing laws, and regulations. The CNA's responsibilities extend beyond basic patient care to include clerical and receptionist duties as assigned. Candidates will often assist patients who are psychologically impaired or emotionally disturbed, requiring sensitivity and tact under the direction of charge nurses or nurse managers. Physical demands of the role include lifting, repositioning, and transporting patients and equipment using proper body mechanics. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency with medical terminology, and computer skills to input and verify data.
