The Assistant Chef plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with food safety legislation such as the Food Hygiene Regulations Act 1950 and subsequent regulations, and in implementing HACCP procedures within the kitchen. This role also includes responsibility for menu development, emphasizing innovation, variety, and profitability by meeting budgeted gross profit margins. The Assistant Chef assists in food ordering and stock management by working with approved suppliers to maximize cost-efficiency while ensuring the highest standards of produce quality are accepted. Collaboration with the Head Chef to evaluate the training needs of kitchen staff is a key element, alongside sharing responsibility for cleanliness, hygiene, and safety standards to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
