The opportunity available at MCCS is a full-time position located within the Food and Beverage Division at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar, specifically serving the Officers' Club, Semper Fi Catering, and Events Center. The position offered is that of Catering Manager, a crucial role that blends sales, event planning, budget management, and team leadership into a comprehensive function that directly impacts the quality of service and operational success of MCCS catering efforts. The Catering Manager will be responsible for directing and supervising a dynamic catering and events program, which includes organizing and executing a variety of functions such as membership affairs, command events, cultural celebrations, and formal balls. This role requires an individual with a strong background in food and beverage operations, sophisticated sales acumen, and effective leadership skills.
This position is strategically important, requiring the individual to manage both the business and operational sides of the catering services. The Catering Manager will take charge of acquiring new sales leads while nurturing existing client relationships to increase sales volume and profitability. This includes collaborating with clients to customize events tailored to their needs and preferences, preparing contracts and financial documentation, as well as supervising on-site events to ensure seamless delivery. Key responsibilities also include setting financial goals and budgets, overseeing compliance with food safety laws and internal policies, driving process improvements to enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiencies, and controlling costs to maximize revenue.
On the management front, the Catering Manager will oversee event coordinators and carry out personnel management duties including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and scheduling. - Must have five years related experience demonstrating knowledge of standardized mess or club catering and events practices
- Bachelor’s degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management preferred
- Knowledge of food and beverage operations, catering sales techniques, and banquet operations
- Ability to coordinate with various workstations to meet customer requirements
- Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in interactions
- Knowledge of purchasing methods and proper storage
- Ability to prepare reports and contractual arrangements
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Effective communication skills both oral and written
- Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and over 45lbs with assistance
