The Bakery Decorator role at Whole Foods Market is an essential part of the bakery team, focused on creating and decorating a variety of specialty bakery goods such as cakes, tarts, pastries, and customized special-order items. This position requires artistic skill and technical expertise to ensure that each product meets the company’s quality standards and aesthetic presentation that delights customers. The Bakery Decorator will work closely with other team members to maintain production schedules, manage inventory through accurate record-keeping, and provide guidance to apprentices and less experienced decorators. The role demands a strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and adherence to food safety and sanitation regulations. Responsibilities include building and icing cakes, executing intermediate piping techniques, mixing and coordinating buttercream colors, and producing decorations using different icings such as Swiss Buttercream, Ganache, Cream Cheese Icing, and more. The Bakery Decorator is also involved in the merchandising and presentation of bakery products in the display case to attract and satisfy customers.   • Minimum of 6-12 months retail or restaurant experience
  • Complete the Bakery Decorator Apprentice training program, or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience within a professional bakery or grocery retail, preferred
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to stand or walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday
  • Hand use with single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • Ability to perform bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching motions
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Exposure to temperatures less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), and greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • May require use of ladders
