The role of Café Attendant at ASYMCA is a vital position within the fast-paced Signature Café, located within one of ASYMCA’s facilities. Reporting directly to the Facility Maintenance Director, the Café Attendant is responsible for a wide range of duties that keep the café running smoothly and uphold the highest standards of customer service and cleanliness. This position involves performing customer transactions efficiently, ensuring the food and snack bars are well-stocked and organized, maintaining a clean and welcoming atmosphere in the café and adjoining lobby areas, and managing inventory with attention to detail. The position requires working flexible, rotating shifts including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays, necessitating adaptability and reliability.
Customer satisfaction and quality control are paramount in this role, requiring the Café Attendant to maintain a positive and professional attitude toward guests and colleagues at all times. The job demands adherence to food handling protocols and health department standards, ensuring sanitary conditions and correct presentation of café items served. Physical stamina is essential, as duties include standing for long periods, lifting objects up to 40 pounds, and safely operating kitchen equipment such as flat-top grills, coffee makers, blenders, and microwaves. The Café Attendant must also follow all standard operating procedures related to opening and closing the café.
Candidates for this role must be at least 21 years old and ideally bring prior culinary experience along with cash handling and customer service skills. A Food Handler’s Certification along with First Aid/CPR Certification and state police criminal record checks are mandatory to comply with safety and regulatory requirements. Strong communication skills in English, particularly for understanding ingredient usage and cleaning protocols in a hazardous environment, are necessary to ensure job performance and workplace safety. The Café Attendant must also foster effective working relationships and demonstrate reliability and professionalism throughout their duties.
