This job opening is for the position of Assistant Head Facilities Serviceperson within the Elementary Middle School/Exceptional Child Center of Broward County Public Schools. This role is instrumental in maintaining the cleanliness, security, and overall operational functionality of school facilities. It involves semi-skilled work focused on supervising and participating in the cleaning programs, encouraging a safe and orderly environment throughout the facilities. The Assistant Head Facilities Serviceperson works closely under the direction of the Head Facilities Serviceperson, assisting with the supervision of assigned personnel and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and cleanliness standards. The position offers an hourly wage range from $20.61 to $30.04, with a shift differential available for night shifts. New hires start at the minimum salary of the assigned pay grade. In this role, the Assistant Head Facilities Serviceperson is responsible for reviewing work performed by facilities service staff, instructing them on proper equipment, chemical use, safety, and operational procedures. They actively engage in the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems including boilers, air conditioning, and power sources. Tasks include changing light bulbs, making minor repairs, verifying school security by locking gates and doors and activating security devices. There is a strong emphasis on safety, energy conservation, and the correct use of cleaning supplies and mechanical equipment. The Assistant Head is also expected to handle physical demands such as climbing ladders and operating heavy-duty floor cleaning machines. Additionally, the role requires tracking time and materials for projects and calling in maintenance work orders when necessary. This position occasionally fills in for the Head Facilities Serviceperson during absences and participates in ongoing training to enhance skills and proficiency. Ideal candidates must have a standard high school diploma or equivalent, with at least three years of relevant industrial, commercial, or educational facility experience. They should be able to plan and direct the work of others, understand energy conservation practices, and demonstrate physical capability for demanding tasks. Computer skills relevant to the position are also required. The district values bilingual skills as a preferred qualification. Physical requirements include the ability to exert significant physical effort, such as lifting up to 55 pounds and climbing ladders. This role offers a full 261-day work calendar consistent with school district policies and is classified as nonexempt under the pay grade FA1102.
