The Banquet Sous Chef plays a crucial role in supporting the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef in culinary management and in taking full operational responsibility in their absence. This leadership position is tasked with overseeing the preparation, production, and presentation of banquet and event menus, ensuring every dish meets Hyatt’s high standards of excellence. The role demands the ability to innovate by developing seasonal and creative menu items aligned with the Hyatt brand and client expectations. Additionally, the Banquet Sous Chef closely partners with the executive culinary team to coordinate large-scale banquets, holiday functions, and special events, ensuring flawless execution from kitchen to table.
Leading a multicultural culinary team, the Banquet Sous Chef is expected to foster an environment of support, guidance, and mentorship, encouraging continual development and driving exceptional culinary and guest service outcomes. The responsibilities extend to managing scheduling, payroll, training, hiring, and performance evaluations, ensuring an organized and motivated kitchen staff. Moreover, this role involves managing inventory, cost control, and quality consistency, alongside strict adherence to safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards. Collaboration with banquet and events teams is essential to anticipate group needs and deliver timely, seamless service.
This position offers a competitive salary range from $76,700 to $115,300 and includes a comprehensive benefits package. - Minimum 3-5 years of progressive culinary leadership experience
- proven ability to manage banquet or high-volume kitchen operations
- strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food cost management, and menu engineering
- excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- ability to train and inspire a multicultural culinary team
- ServSafe or other recognized food safety certification preferred
- flexible schedule with availability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed
