The clerk will be responsible for assisting customers by obtaining requested bakery or deli items, wrapping and packaging these items appropriately, and operating the cash register to process payments and provide correct change. This interaction requires a personable approach and the ability to use suggestive selling techniques to help educate customers on products available in both departments. In the deli section, the clerk will be performing hands-on food preparation tasks such as frying chicken, Jo Jo’s, and burritos, as well as cooking chicken on a rotisserie oven. The role also involves making sandwiches, salads, pizzas, popcorn, and cotton candy. Additional responsibilities include slicing meats and cheeses using a slicer machine and ensuring that all deli products are fresh, properly priced, labeled, and attractively packaged for customer purchase. While working in the bakery, the clerk will slice bread and package diverse bakery products, contributing to the overall presentation and appeal of the bakery display. Maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment is essential to ensure food safety and comply with health regulations. This role requires standing for extended periods, generally ranging from 4 to 8 hours per day, and using hands, arms, and fingers to operate tools and power equipment effectively. The Bakery/Deli Clerk is also tasked with restocking products as needed, garnishing food items to enhance visual appeal, and utilizing the store intercom system to alert customers about bakery and deli offerings. Though some responsibilities are essential, the position also includes opportunities to assist with additional tasks such as cake decorating and other baking or frying duties as required.
