The role of Bakery Cake Designer at Hy-Vee is an essential position within the bakery department, classified as non-exempt hourly employment. The principal function involves decorating cakes and other bakery items to meet customer orders and company quality standards. This position offers the opportunity to interact with customers both in-person at the bakery counter and by telephone, assisting them with cake designs, sizes, and special requests to personalize their bakery products. As a Bakery Cake Designer, you work closely with team members to ensure timely production and delivery of bakery orders, including the setup and presentation of wedding cakes onsite outside the store. You will also maintain inventory levels by ordering supplies and managing the decorating workspace.
Further responsibilities include ensuring all decorated items meet the store’s high standards and compliance with sanitation procedures, contributing to maintaining a clean and organized environment. You will also serve as a lead worker by instructing and supporting part-time or less experienced employees while fostering a positive and cooperative workplace.                 - High school diploma or equivalent
 - six months or less of similar or related work experience
 - must be physically able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally (shared team lifting), up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects
 - must possess vision capabilities including color vision, depth perception, and field of vision, with or without correction
 - must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
 - must be able to work in a store environment exposed to flour dust, noise, cleaning chemicals/solvents, residual fumes, and temperature extremes
