This part-time bakery position is offered by a cooperative grocery store dedicated to providing high-quality food products with a focus on local and organic sourcing. Operating under the ethos of community engagement and quality, the bakery team plays a crucial role in fulfilling the company’s mission to offer fresh, delicious, and wholesome baked goods that meet diverse dietary needs including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. The position works closely with the Deli manager and the Food Service Manager, ensuring collaborative efforts in maintaining inventory, production, and sales targets, while contributing to the cooperative's commitment to environmental responsibility and food quality.
The role specifically focuses on preparing and delivering an attractive and delicious array of bakery items, with special attention to breads and a diverse variety of baked goods using seasonal, local, and organic ingredients. The baker is responsible for developing and standardizing recipes aligned with Coop food policies and departmental objectives concerning local and organic food sourcing, sales targets, profit margins, and labor costs. The position requires a skilled individual who can maintain quality, quantity, and timely production standards, while minimizing waste and controlling costs effectively. This is a hands-on role involving daily inventory management, ingredient ordering, quality control, and adherence to food safety regulations. The baker will also contribute to creating seasonal and holiday specialty items, and thoughtfully accommodate dietary preferences and special orders, ensuring the bakery meets and exceeds customer expectations.
Beyond baking expertise, this role necessitates excellent organizational skills to maintain smooth operation of the bakery’s production schedule and inventory control. The baker must create attractive signage, manage proper rotation and storage of inventory, and collaborate with other departments to ensure consistent quality and variety in bakery offerings. A key part of the job includes maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment, adhering to Department of Health standards, and proactively addressing equipment maintenance and supply needs.
In addition to technical baking skills, the position demands strong customer service orientation. The baker is expected to interact warmly with customers, greeting them with a smile and ensuring a welcoming shopping atmosphere. Supervisory responsibilities are included, as the baker will train and oversee members and substitutes, help manage workflow, and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to achieve operational goals. Shifts run from 10 am to 6:30 pm, starting at $17.50 per hour.
