Delta Air Lines, Inc. is one of the world's premier international airlines, distinguished by a steadfast commitment to delivering a superior customer travel experience. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, our extensive network spans the globe, connecting millions of passengers to their destinations reliably and safely. Our company stands as a symbol of innovation and excellence in the aviation industry, continuously striving to enhance operational efficiency while prioritizing the safety and satisfaction of our customers. As a major player in the airline industry, Delta employs over 90,000 team members worldwide, including a team of more than 17,000 pilots who contribute to the airline’s reputation as a leader in global air travel.
At the heart of Delta’s operational excellence is the Flight Operations Division. This integral division is dedicated to ensuring the airline operates with unmatched safety, reliability, and efficiency. It supports the complex demands of a global airline, working closely with regulatory bodies such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to maintain the highest standards of compliance and operational effectiveness. The Flight Operations Division encompasses various departments including Fleet Teams, Chief Pilot Offices, Technical Pilots, Legal, Navigation Services, Flight Control, and several others. These diverse teams collaborate to support the airline’s pilots and operational staff, ensuring seamless flight operations across the Delta network.
Within this division, the Regulatory Compliance department serves as a vital liaison between Delta and the FAA. This department facilitates essential regulatory approvals for new routes, oversees Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) applications, and manages compliance across the board. It works in tandem with multiple Delta departments and external agencies like Network Planning, Legal, Tech Ops, and others to support seamless global operations. The department’s responsibilities are wide-ranging, involving coordination with pilot support teams, legal counsel for international permits, and technical staff focused on flight safety and operations quality.
Delta’s Co-Op program within the Regulatory Compliance department offers a unique opportunity for students interested in Aviation Management and related fields. This paid Co-Op role is based at Delta’s World Headquarters in Atlanta and operates on a partially hybrid schedule, combining on-campus work with virtual collaboration. The program is designed to immerse students in a variety of challenging projects and daily operations that directly impact the airline’s Flight Operations quality and regulatory compliance. Co-Op participants will have the privilege to engage with seasoned aviation professionals and gain hands-on experience in various facets of flight operations and regulatory affairs.
The Co-Op role focuses on supporting Program Managers in streamlining processes and improving operational efficiency. Students will contribute to critical projects involving quality improvement, regulatory filing support with the Legal team, and automation initiatives. They will also have the opportunity to manage a capstone project aimed at enhancing cross-functional collaboration and operational automation within Flight Operations. This role offers significant exposure to cutting-edge tools and technologies such as Tableau, Smart Sheets, MS Excel Macros, and FAA Safety Analysis Systems (SAS).
Participants in the Co-Op program benefit greatly from mentoring by experienced aviation experts and gain invaluable insights into various departments including Dispatch, Delta Weather, Load Control, Flight Control, and Chief Pilot Offices. The program also provides unique travel privileges such as standby flight access and jump seat authority, facilitating direct observation of flight procedures and pilot workflows. Furthermore, students gain firsthand experience with domestic and international operations, addressing the complexities of securing and maintaining regulatory approvals worldwide.
This educational and professional experience is structured over three alternating semesters: Summer 2026, Spring 2027, and Fall 2027, providing a comprehensive learning arc throughout the academic journey. While the Co-Op program does not guarantee full-time employment post-graduation, it strongly prepares students for future careers in aviation and related industries. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, self-motivated, adept at managing multiple tasks, and possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Preference is given to rising Sophomores or Juniors pursuing relevant undergraduate degrees with a passion for aviation safety and operational excellence.
